One of the biggest railway museums in Europe, in 2019 Russian Railway Museum became a nominee for the European Museum of the Year Award by the European Museum Forum.
The museum consists of indoor and outdoor exhibitions storing around 35000 historical artifacts including 118 items of rolling stock.
Similar in form and connected by passages, the old and new buildings form a single complex, each part of which is dedicated to a certain period in the history of the railway. In the old depot, in addition to exhibition premises, there are cafés, souvenir shops, a lecture hall, funds and administration offices.
In the new building, the visitor has the opportunity to take a look at the entire exposition from the hanging gallery and then go down for a more detailed view.
